Lake Whitingham Swimming/Picnic Areas
Harriman Reservoir is the largest lake within Vermont’s borders with 28 miles of pretty much untouched coastline. It is open to motor boats, yet still safe for kayakers, canoeing, fishing and swimming. Here are a few spots to access Lake Whitingham.
Fairview Ave – At the light in Downtown Wilmington (corner of Route 100 and Route 9), go south on Main St (becomes Castle Hill Rd). After about a quarter mile take a right onto Fairview Ave. Follow that till the end (as you enter the park it becomes a single lane dirty road) and you’ll be a the boat launch, swimming and picnic area.
Castle Hill – At the light in Downtown Wilmington (corner of Route 100 and Route 9), go south on Main St (becomes Castle Hill Rd). It will be about 2-3 miles from the light with parking on the right and a steep road down to the water. While small this is not usually as busy as Fairview Ave.
Medburyville – At the light in Downtown Wilmington (corner of Route 100 and Route 9), go west on Route 9. In 3 miles you will see a bridge on your left, take the bridge and a left after the bridge. Follow the dirt road to the end and you will see parking and picnic tables. Great swimming and picnicking spot with a great hike along an old railroad track along the lake.
